Living in Hamburg: Accommodation options
Private accommodation
Don't speak German just at school; meet German people in their homes! We will find you a private single room with or without catering. We see and check all available rooms personally and are in close contact with our landlords and landladies. We want to make sure you feel at home in Hamburg.
For an extra charge, we can also supply airport pickup service.
Your hosts may be very different from one another. Usually they are single (working) people with or without children. It is seldom to have a "classic" family (married couple with children).
Your room is available from the Sunday before your course begins until the Saturday after your course ends.
Furnishing and facilities are functional, yet cosy. Bedding and towelling are provided. In agreement with your host, washing machines may usually be used. The bathroom and kitchen are shared with your host. WLAN /WiFi i.e., internet access is usually provided – however, not necessarily. If this is the case, the use of a surf-stick or extra access organised through your mobile telephone provider will aid you.
TANDEM Hamburg is located in the Hamburg City Centre. There are many tourist attractions all around our school, like the harbour, the Alster lake with its beautiful town canals (called Fleet) and a variety of shopping possibilities – however, very little residential options. This is why it is not often possible to find a room within walking distance. Our accommodation options can all be easily reached by public transport (underground train, city train, buses or harbour ferries).
If you intend to stay in Hamburg for more than three months
If you intend to stay in Hamburg for more than three months, you are required to register with your Hamburg address at the registry office. In Hamburg the customer service centres of the city's districts are in charge here. For this case, we recommend that you organise your lodgings yourself. Unfortunately we have only few landlords and landladies who allow registration using their address.
You may choose from the following options:
Self-catering
Self-catering means that you prepare your meals in the kitchen yourself. And if you don't want to do that on a daily basis, we'll have lots of ideas for you to find affordable restaurants.
Bed and breakfast
Here you book breakfast with your room. 'Breakfast included' can also mean that your host buys breakfast, however you prepare it yourself. This is often the case when your host works and needs to leave the apartment before you.
