FAQ - Evening German Courses in Hamburg

How do I register?

You can register using the online registration form on our website. Once we have received your registration for a German evening course, we will send you a link to our online placement test. As soon as we receive your placement test results, we will confirm your registration via email and ask you to transfer the course fee.

How do I know what my level is?

We will send you a link to our online placement test on our website. We offer a placement test for levels A1–B1 and a placement test for levels B2 and C1. Please complete this test—without any help, of course—and send it back to us. You have 30 minutes for the A1–B1 test and 45 minutes for the B2–C1 test. We will then notify you of your test results. If you feel you have been placed in the wrong level, we offer either an oral placement assessment via Zoom or here at our school. Alternatively, you are also welcome to participate in a free trial lesson

Can I take a trial class if I want to join an ongoing course?

If you’re unsure whether the current course is right for you, you’re welcome to schedule a free trial session. If you decide to join the course afterward, you’ll only pay for the remaining sessions. If you feel that the level isn’t right for you, you’re welcome to wait for the next course cycle and start the level from the beginning.

When do I need to pay? Can I pay the course fee in instalments?

After registration, you will receive our confirmation of enrollment with a request to transfer the course fee within 7 days. You are also welcome to pay the evening class fee in two installments. If you would like to pay at our language school, we accept payments in cash, by debit card, and by credit card.

My employer is covering the course fees. What do I need to do?

If your company is covering the costs of the evening German course, simply provide us with your employer’s contact information. We will then send the invoice directly to your company.

When are my classes?

Our evening German courses take place twice a week, with three class periods each session (= 6 class periods per week). Classes are held from 6:30 p.m. to 8:45 p.m. Note: In Germany, a class period lasts 45 minutes.

Which coursebooks do I use?

You will need one coursebook per half-level, e.g., A2.1. (= 10-week evening course). For levels A1–B1, we use the coursebook “Netzwerk neu Hybride Ausgabe.” These coursebooks cost €23.99 per half-level. At levels B2–C1, we use “Kontext Hybrid Ausgabe.” It costs €26.99.

How many weeks does half a level take?

Wie viele Wochen dauert eine halbe Niveaustufe?

For half a level, e.g., A2.1, you’ll need a total of 10 weeks with us. The minimum enrollment period is 5 weeks.
We offer 5 full levels: A1, A2, B1, B2, and C1.

Can I also participate online?

Yes, that’s possible—except for the A1 level. If you’re sick or on vacation, you can let us know 24 hours in advance and we’ll send you a Zoom link. You can then participate in your German class online.

Will I receive a certificate at the end of the German course?

At the end of each level, we will send you a certificate of completion. This certificate lists the levels you have completed and the number of lessons you have taken.

If you need an official certificate, you can take a telc exam at a reduced price. On our website, you can see our exams with available slots. If your desired exam date is already fully booked, please feel free to contact us and we will try to find a solution.
